Consumer Complaints About Debt Collection Issues

The Consumer Federation of America, the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and the North American Consumer Protection Investigators released their recent joint survey which found that debt collection was high on the list of the consumer complaints in the United States. Credit and debt seemed to be the major issue for several of the consumer complaints in the survey. For example, US consumers were frustrated with billing and fee disputes and mortgage-related fraud.
Consumers also complained of problematic credit repair and debt relief services. Most interesting was the complaint that a number of consumers encountered illegal and abusive debt collection tactics. With debt collections being a major problem, consumers can protect themselves by knowing their debt collection rights according to the law.
